Lifting

Indications: sagging facial tissues (cheeks, jowls, facial contour and neck)

Anesthesia:  General

The incision: In the scalp area and the periphery of the ears
Stay in clinic: nights
Recovery: 8 to 10 days

What is

The procedure is designed to rejuvenate your face and combating
the effects of time, stress, sun exposure, and environmental damage.

There are 3 ways to proceed:

  • The lifting cervico - facial: Correction of sagging facial features and neck. No effect on the wrinkles or eye bags.
  • The temporal lift: Raising the eyebrows and crow's feet soften (reduce wrinkles) in the upper outer eye.
  • The forehead lift: Stretch the muscles of the forehead, correct and smooth out wrinkles.

Before the intervention

Any medicine containing aspirin should be stopped 10 days before the operation.

If you smoke, it’s especially important to stop at least a week or two before and after surgery; smoking inhibits blood flow to the skin, and can interfere with the healing of your incision areas. If your hair is very short, you might want to let it grow out before surgery, so that it’s long enough to hide the scars while they heal.

Do not dye your hair before your surgery because the chemicals affect the healing process.

The surgery

The operation is carried out under general anasthesia and takes about 2 - 3 hours.

The skin incisions are almost invisibles, they are hidden by the hair (temporal and nucal areas) and by the area surrounding the ear.

After the surgery

In order to optimize patient’s comfort post operatively via pain medicine, she will remain hospitalized for 2 or 3 days.

The compressive bandage is removed within 2 days. Stitches could be left 6 - 10 days. In general, the patient may be back at work from the third week after the surgery even though a discrete swelling (oedema) will persist.

Results

Within 2 to 3 months we can usually have a good idea about the final result.

Usually 7 to 10 years, depending on the quality of the skin care and lifestyle of the patient.

Risks

Injury to the nerves that control facial muscles or feeling (usually temporary but may be permanent), infection, bleeding, poor healing, excessive scarring and asymmetry or change in hairline.
